- Haddaway grew up in the Washington DC area before
relocating to Cologne, Germany where he began his musical career
- The song hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993
- It was also #2 on the singles charts in the UK and
Germany, and reached #1 in Spain, France, Ireland, The Netherlands,
and Italy
- It was the only Top 40 hit of his career in the US,
but he did have several other minor hits in Europe
- "What Is Love" was used on several episodes
of Saturday Night Live, and was later made into the 1998 feature film
"A Night at the Roxbury"
