Oracle Band 2002 -
The Year in Review Pictorial

Warning - This page and the next are graphics intensive.  Please allow time for the photos to load.

The year 2002 saw the Oracle Band mature as a musical organization.  Our songlist expanded from just over 200 songs to well over 300, and the band's sound was strengthened as Steve was integrated into more of the material, both vocally and on trumpet.

This then is our retrospective look back at some of the significant events and performances of 2002.  We hope you enjoy looking back as much as we do!!!

New Years 2002

The year 2002 started with bang as a sellout crowd at the American Legion in Severna Park greeted midnight and the new year with lots of noise and an overflowing dance floor.

Probably the most memorable moment of the evening occurred just after midnight, when Veronica starts picking up a radio station in her wireless in-ear monitor. You should have seen the look of sheer terror on her face when she realized she'd have to try and sing one song while another played in her head ;-).  Never a dull moment with this band...that's for sure!

We're not really sure if these ladies were simply dancing around the pole, or if they needed it to stay on their feet, but regardless, it sure came in handy!

It was the last Sunday in January when Oracle performed for their first bridal show, starting out at a venue no less intimidating than the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University.

January also saw Oracle business manager Steve Kimbell re-elected as president of the Association of Wedding Professionals, an  organization committed to advancing ethics and professional behavior within the wedding industry.

It turned out to be a great party, (as if it could be anything else with Oracle getting everyone dancing), and the guests all had a great time.

In addition to clubs and weddings Oracle performs for other functions such as backyard birthday parties.

This one in Pasadena was a casual affair that started in the afternoon and went well into the night.

Whether it's a stage in a nightclub or a porch in the backyard, Oracle is ready to perform anywhere and any time.

Click for enlarged view. You'd never know from looking at her that Veronica's back is causing some serious pain.

Oracle took the month of June off when Veronica was advised by her doctor that her ongoing back problems necessitated surgery.

Up to this point we were amazed how she could perform night after night, bouncing around like a crazy person, and then at the end of the night we would almost have to carry her to the van as she was in so much pain.

Unfortunately it now appears that the surgery was not too successful, and she is still experiencing a lot of pain.  Not that you would know it from her performances though, as you can see in this shot from a December American Legion performance.

Oracle performed for quite a few weddings over the course of the year.  Among the newlyweds were long time Oracle fans Joni and Charlie, who tied the knot in their back yard on July 20th.

The guests were thankful the reception was poolside, and many of them took advantage of this amenity as it was a VERY hot day.

The heat didn't stop the conga line from breaking out, or prevent folks from dancing well into the night.  We had a great time with some good friends, and we wish them (and all our newlywed clients) a long and happy life together.
