in '86 as "the definitive soul singer".
- The song went to #10 on the Billboard Top 40 charts &
to #1 on the R&B charts in 1963, it was the 20th of his 29 top 40 hits
- Remade by Cat Stevens (born Steven Georgiou on
7/21/47 in London England)
- The remake reached #6 on the pop charts in 1974
- Stevens converted to Islam in 1979 & changed his name
to Yousef Islam
- In 1993 the song was remade yet again by Jimmy
Buffett, and it has become a staple on his concert tours ever since,
although it only managed to reach #74 on the pop charts at the time.
