- The Broadway show opened at the Eden Theatre in
Manhattan New York on February 14, 1972
- Rave reviews and a huge demand for tickets prompted
the show to be moved to the much larger Royale Theater, and later
still to the Majestic Theater
- All told the show had an original run of 3388
performances
- It was nominated for a total of 7 Tony Awards
- In 1978 the Broadway musical was made into a movie
directed by Randal Kleiser
- The movie starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John,
Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Eve Arden
- The music and lyrics for the original show were
written by Jim Jacobs and William Casey
- The movie received five Golden Globe Award
nominations and an Academy Award
- In 1996 a remixed medley of songs from the movie
started making the rounds, and radio stations started picking it up
and playing it. The "Grease Megamix" became a classic,
although it had never been released as a single
- The song was originally sung as a duet with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John,
playing the roles of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson
- Released as a single in 1978, the song followed the
success of "You're The One That I Want" and went to #5 on
the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart
- When performed by Oracle Band it is part of a medley
also known as the Grease Megamix, a
medley of three Grease songs put together back in 1996 and which was a
#25 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay Chart
