  • From the Paramount Pictures movie Grease
  • Although Grease was originally a hugely successful Broadway musical, racking up 3388 performances on it's original run in New York, this particular song was not part of the Broadway production
  • The movie starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Eve Arden
  • In the lead roles of the movie two other actors were considered...Henry Winkler of "Happy Days" fame, and Marie Osmond.  Winkler reportedly turned down the role for fear of being typecast, and Osmond stated she didn't like the fact that the girl has to turn bad to get the guy
  • It was added for the movie which needed additional musical numbers
  • The song was written by John Farrar, an Australian musician and composer who had worked extensively with Olivia Newton-John
  • The song was originally sung as a duet with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, playing the roles of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson
  • When released in 1978 as a single the song went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart 
  • In the United Kingdom the song was #1 for nine weeks, and at last check was the 6th most popular single ever released in Britain 
  • When performed by Oracle Band it is part of a medley also known as the Grease Megamix, a medley of three Grease songs put together back in 1996
