New Years Party 2010-2011

As with all our past retrospectives, this one begins with a New Years Party and ends with a New Years party.

It seems each year we get more and more people looking to attend our New Years performances, and each year there are disappointed folks who couldn't get tickets because the event sold out.

For the 2010-2011 party we found the largest room we could in the area, one that offered a fabulous menu as well as lots of space, and that venue was La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie, scene of many fun Oracle Band performances that would be occurring over the course of year.

For 2011 "The Bleue" sort of adopted Oracle  for the vast majority of their public performances, and we had some great ones there during the course of the year, but it was New Years that really got things kicked off in high gear.

It was a real treat to see so many faces in the audience...some new, many we see on a regular basis, and some that we haven't seen for years!

Chesapeake Commodore's Club

The first weekend of the new year found the band on the road to Ocean City Maryland where we were performing for the fifth time in six years at the annual Chesapeake Commodore's Club (CCC) Ball.

Every suite of the Princess Royale Hotel is taken up by former commodores of the various yacht clubs and boat clubs that surround Chesapeake Bay.  It is the hottest ticket in town to get, and the band performs both Friday night and Saturday night for these fun loving partiers.

Most of the ground level suites that face the pool where the main party is held are turned into hospitality Suites by the various yacht clubs, and the decorations are original and well thought out.

The action is continuous as the party rolls all day and most of the night for the entire weekend.  During the day on Saturday the band typically heads down to the boardwalk for some Thrashers Fries, or over to Assateague Island to say hi to the ponies.

Veronica's Hip Surgery

Astute observers of the band may have noticed that towards the end of 2010 and the first month of 2011 Veronica was moving kind of slow.

Well, slow is putting things mildly, as her hip had all but disintegrated & she required a hip replacement surgery to get back on her feet.  By the end of January she was wheelchair bound & sitting on stage on a stool.

It was difficult to find the time that we could take off to accommodate her recovery period without disappointing a bunch of people, but the surgery was eventually scheduled for early January, immediately following our performance at the CCC.

We were thrilled to see her come roaring back in far less time than anyone had predicted, and although we took it really easy for the first couple of months, she is now back to her old self again, dancing and working the stage like never before!
